Turkey Calculator

The turkey calculator is a calculator which will work out how much turkey, stuffing and time you will need for a meal before Thanksgiving. The calculator works simply by you entering the number of adults and children you will be serving (Put that into the Adults and Kids input boxes).

This click the button below and it will almost instantly calculate how much turkey you will need (in LB’s) and how much stuffing you need (measured in Cups). From there it will calculate how much time you will need for each process of preparing the turkey.

It includes, the time you need to start defrosting the turkey at, what time you need to unwrap the turkey at, what time you need to put the turkey in the oven, how long you will be required the turkey for, how long you will need to cook the turkey for lightly with foil and when it will be read to be served to your guests or family.

The calculator works by first working out how much stuffing you will require, the formula used is (Adults * 1.5) + (Kids*.75) this works out roughly how much turkey you will need in Lbs. And for the stuffing we use (Adult * 1.5) + (Kid*.75) yet again this works out roughly how much stuffing you will be required to fill the turkey.

To work out the time you will need to leave the turkey to defrost is worked out by the weight of the turkey. Weight of the turkey / 4, then you add 1 onto that. Then you round that number to the nearest whole number. You then minus that off the days before Thanksgiving, For example, the formula outputs 1, then the date would be Nov 25.

To calculate how long you will need to leave the turkey in foil we do a simple equitation we get the total time it will take to cook then entire turkey then we times that by one third. (Total cook time * 0.3333). This gives us the time we need to leave the turkey in the foil whilst cooking gently waiting for the quests to arrive at the house.

This calculator is extremely useful as it tells you exactly when you need to do the tasks, so you do not need to worry about if you will undercook or overcook your turkey. It also lets you plan ahead for the thanksgiving season. This calculator could be used in other situations, but when you get the results just change the date and write down all the information that you require about the turkey timing.
